Computer engineering is a discipline that embodies the science and technology of design, construction, implementation, and maintenance of software and hardware components of modern computing systems, computer-controlled equipment, and networks of intelligent devices. Computer engineering is solidly grounded in the theories and principles of computing, mathematics, and science. It applies these theories and principles to solve technical problems through the design of computing hardware, software, networks, and processes.

The Engineering College was the first college to start this prestigious branch.The number of students gradually increased year by year, so now we have over 450 students for BSc. courses.
the department has started to open high diploma courses, afterwards in 2006 MSc. courses started to be given to postgraduate students.
The department act as a dynamic research department, drawing skilled researchers from the region and reacting swiftly to the changing technological landscape. Some 30 researchers are currently working within the department, including academic staff, research staff, and research students. A part of these research activities, the department has a well-known annual fair named SEDAF.

As modern issues arise, computer engineers are more involved in the design of computer-based systems to address specific application needs. Computer engineers work in most industries, including the computer, automobile, aerospace, telecommunications, power production, manufacturing, defense, and electronics. They design high-tech devices ranging from tiny microelectronic integrated-circuit chips, to powerful systems that utilize those chips, alongside efficient telecommunication systems that interconnect those systems
Graduates of the software engineering department will be recognized as innovative leaders in the field of software engineering by their work in software development in a myriad of application areas, and through their work in advanced study and research. The department will continue to be known for their passion for teaching these students and for their knowledge, expertise, and innovation in advancing the frontiers of knowledge in software engineering.
The software engineering department mission is to teach and prepare liberally educated, articulate, and skilled software engineers for leadership and professional careers and for advanced study. A central objective of our department program is to contribute to society by advancing the fields of software engineering through innovations in teaching and research thus enhancing student knowledge through interactive instruction, global engagement, and experiential learning, also the program will serve as a resource to inform society about innovations related to the production and uses of computers and software
