petroleum department

During a 15-day internship program at Dana Gas’s Khor-Mor LPG facility in Chamchamal, our Petroleum Engineering students received hands-on training and theoretical instruction. Dana Gas is a prominent natural gas exploration and production company in the UAE, and it plays a major role in the development of the Middle East and North Africa’s natural gas resources while promoting environmental responsibility.

At the beginning, the PTE students participated in some courses covering safety, personal protective equipment, and Udemy Business, expanding their knowledge in various domains. Next, they gained insights into critical aspects of the gas processing industry, including compressors, separators, motors, stabilizers, amine units, and cryogenic systems. They also learned about Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) used to depict process equipment and instrumentation interconnections. This experience provided a deep understanding of natural gas production and processing, emphasizing the importance of safety and contributing to their professional development in the petroleum engineering sector.

Petroleum and chemical engineering department was established in the academic during the same academic year forty-four students were registered. The department offers B.Sc. in petroleum and chemical engineering.

The Bachelor of Science programme is a four-year programme organized into eight semesters.

Petroleum and chemical engineering department is one of the eight departments in the college of engineering at Salahaddin university-erbil, which is the top ranked state university in Kurdistan. The department has gone through several re-structuring stages to reflect the needs of Kurdistan in the area of natural resources and its related fields.

The departmen

A group of senior and junior students from the Petroleum Engineering department visited the KorMor gas plant operated by Dana Gas on June 22nd, 2023. The objective of this trip was to introduce the students to the natural gas processing procedures that they had studied in the Natural Gas Engineering course.

At the beginning, the students were given the necessary safety instructions, and later on, they were introduced to various units of the plant. During this excursion, the students visited and received explanations from field operation supervisors about several units including EPF, three-phase separators, amine, turboexpander, deethanizer, debutanizer, compressors, etc.

Overall, the field trip provided practical insights and hands-on learning experience for the students in the field of natural gas processing.

The department offers a comprehensive range of courses leading to well-qualified graduates who can address the challenges of the world’s industry needs responsibly, to exceed the evolving expectations of employers in the petroleum and chemical industries, to sustain industry leading skills and to be leaders in industry, academia and government.

As the head of the department, I would like to assure you that the academic staff and department members are ready and willing to provide all our students with the skills and support services you need to grow academically, socially, and personally. Please accept our wishes for a successful academic year, and do not hesitate to seek our guidance. Welcome to the chemical and petrochemical engineering department, and set sail for an inspirational journey towards a successful future!
